WOODBRIDGE-- Ed Potosnak, Democratic nominee for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, is sharply critical of Governor Christie’s decision to cancel the ARC tunnel transportation project. Potosnak has been an outspoken supporter of the ARC tunnel, while his opponent, incumbent Congressman Lance has been unsupportive of the train improvement project. Studies show that completion of the ARC tunnel would increase home values of those living along the Raritan Valley Line by up to 25% and shave hours of weekly commuting time.
“I am extremely disappointed in Governor Christie’s decision today to halt the ARC tunnel permanently,” said Potosnak. “This project would have brought $6 billion in investment to New Jersey from the federal government and the Port Authority, eliminating the time consuming change in Newark and providing a one-seat ride from Central Jersey to New York City. Completion of the ARC tunnel would mean good jobs in the short term building the tunnel and good jobs in the long term with greatly improved, more efficient and more frequent access to the higher paying jobs in New York City. The ARC tunnel would have shaved 40 minutes off round trip commutes, giving workers an extra three hours every week to spend with their families--- helping their kids with homework and cheering them on at games.”
“My opponent stood silently by while the Governor played politics with the most important New Jersey transportation project in a generation. This project would have produced both short and long term jobs, improve quality of life, increased the number of one seat rides and shorten commutes as well as reducing traffic across our communities and throughout northern New Jersey. Congressman Lance could not be bothered to fight for our quality of life in the 7th district- the only thing he’s fighting for is his own job. When I go to Congress, I will fight hard to bring projects like the ARC tunnel to fruition so that families and businesses in the 7th district can grow and prosper.”
