WOODBRIDGE – Ed Potosnak, Democratic nominee for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th District, reaffirmed his support for the health of New Jersey women and their families.  Potosnak called upon the New Jersey State Senate to override Governor Christie’s veto of $7.5 million for women’s health care.  Earlier this month, Governor Christie vetoed legislation that would have provided vital health services to New Jersey women and families.

“It is unacceptable to play politics with the health and well-being of New Jersey women.  We need the seven Republican state senators who voted in favor of the legislation this summer to do so again and help override the Governor’s veto.  I call upon my opponent, Congressman Lance, to rally his former colleagues to protect access to healthcare for the women of New Jersey.”

“If this legislation fails, the $7.5 million saved now will cost New Jersey $30 million later.  We cannot just pass the buck on women’s health.  This legislation, if passed, will provide family planning services, including routine gynecological exams, screenings for pre-existing conditions like diabetes and anemia, breast and cervical cancer screening, and prenatal care to 136,000 women, men, and children in New Jersey.  In these trying economic times, New Jersey families need more support, not less.  Cutting access to necessary health services for women is misguided and dangerous.”
