SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Incumbent Congressman Leonard Lance (R-7) squared off against Democratic challenger Ed Potosnak this morning in Scotch Plains in a debate moderated by the League of Women Voters.  The candidates clashed often and emotions and rhetoric ran high as the campaign’s home stretch has come into focus.

Ed Potosnak of North Plainfield, Democratic candidate for New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, said Wednesday, Oct. 13, that he is pleased with the decision by Judge Virginia Phillips to order the military to stop enforcing  “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” immediately on grounds that it is unconstitutional.

Bridgewater


Daniel W. Brown, a graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan High School, has been honored with a Merrill Presidential Scholarship from Cornell University. Brown is one 31 students honored in 2010. Each spring semester, approximately 1 percent of Cornell's graduating class receives this honor. Merrill Scholars, in turn, recognize a high school teacher who most inspired their scholastic development. Brown chose Ed Potosnak of Bridgewater-Raritan High School.

Between our own Ken and Blue America's Ed, we're getting the best coverage of New Jersey politics outside of the state. Two weeks ago at his formal endorsement session Ed told us how Chris Christie was actually thinking about diverting the money that was meant for the ARC Tunnel. Last night Ken completed the story when Christie actually did it. Yesterday the state's biggest newspaper looked at the widespread speculation that Christie killed the tunnel to get people's minds off the education scandal he's presiding over.

I live in Hunterdon County. Leonard Lance, whom I've known for years, is my congressman. It's hard to explain to someone outside this crimson geography Hunterdon's relationship with Lance. He's a known presence on the street, as his father Wesley Lance -  who preceded him in both the Assembly and Senate - was. A friendly person, even if you don't always agree.
