Alternative Press: Potosnak Disappointed, Congressman Lance Votes to Take Away Workers' Rights

E-mail Print PDF

Unfortunately, instead of building on the work of the Senate to improve on the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) reauthorization, House Speaker Boehner and his party-line followers passed a version of the FAA reauthorization with a union-busting provision neither the Senate nor President Obama support. The House version of the bill, which would force unions to conduct unfair and undemocratic elections, aims to eliminate collective bargaining for workers. It’s a blatant attempt to pander to the far-right wing of their party.

Some GOP members of Congress (including Rep. Runyan and Rep. LoBiondo) stood up to Speaker Boehner and joined Democrats in opposition to this irresponsible policy.

Rep. Lance was noticeably absent from this group. Instead of voting to protect the rights of New Jerseyans, Congressman Lance voted to disenfranchise union workers and to undermine their right to hold fair elections.

I am extremely disappointed in Mr. Lance.  He has changed since going to Washington and this pandering is just another example of how far off track he has gotten. New Jersey needs a representative who will protect collective bargaining rights without reservation or variation brought on by the tides of popular opinion.  They need a representative who will stand with New Jersey’s working families and help ensure that workers have access to good jobs, a safe work environment, and affordable family healthcare. I grew up in a union household and will always be willing to stand with NJ’s working families

Since going to Washington, Congressman Leonard Lance has put his political career ahead of the interests working families every step of the way.

Editor's Note:  Ed Potosnak is a former Congressional candidate in the 7th Congressional District.

NJ.com Levy: Potosnak is best choice for Congress

To the Editor:

I live in the 7th Congressional district of New Jersey where there is a battle brewing between the incumbent Republican Leonard Lance and the Democrat Ed Potosnak.

Leonard Lance was elected in 2008 for a 2-year term which is ending this year; this seat has been held by Republicans before him such as Mike Ferguson, Bob Franks, Matt Rinaldo, and Marge Roukema; as a matter of fact, except for Andrew Maguire a Democrat (1975-1981), this seat has been in the Republican hands since 1914.

It is time for a change! It is time for a Democrat to hold that seat again. That person is
Ed Potosnak (www.ed4nj.com). He is not a career politician, he is a former Science teacher and a small business owner whose parents also had a small business in Northern New Jersey.

The two candidates vying for the District 7 seat in Congress crossed swords the morning of Oct. 26, but not directly.

Republican incumbent Leonard Lance and challenger Ed Potosnak came to the Wilf Jewish Community Campus in Scotch Plains to meet with members of the Jewish community, but — as arranged — Potosnak, a Democrat, came after his opponent had left the building.

by:  Rosi Efthim

In NJ-7, as Blue Jersey reported earlier, GOP incumbent Leonard Lance agreed to just two debates against Ed Potosnak; one for TV (hosted by News12, taped outside NJ-7) and one in Scotch Plains, Union County, hosted by the League of Women Voters. He would not go head-to-head in his home-county Hunterdon, Somerset, or Middlesex.

We now have both debates available on video, both below.
